Dieses Buch vereint die zwei größten Namen der Schachgeschichte. Der Autor, Garry Kasparov, ist die Nummer eins der Weltrangliste und gilt allgemein als der beste Spieler aller Zeiten. Der Protagonist des Buches, Bobby Fischer, ist der einzige Amerikaner, der Weltmeister wurde, und wohl das größte Naturtalent, das die Welt je gesehen hat.
In den Jahren 1955 bis 1972 stellte sich Fischer, mehr oder weniger im Alleingang, der Macht des sowjetischen Schachimperiums entgegen und siegte. In dieser Zeit erzielte er beispiellose Erfolge. Dazu zählten ein 11:11-Sieg bei der US-Meisterschaft 1963/64 und 6:0-Siege in Matches (auf dem Weg zur Weltmeisterschaft) gegen zwei der stärksten Spieler der Welt, Mark Taimanov und Bent Larsen. Der Höhepunkt von Fischers Karriere war sein unvergesslicher Matchsieg 1972 in Reykjavik gegen Boris Spassky.
Fischer war fast ebenso bekannt für sein aufbrausendes Verhalten abseits des Schachbretts wie für seine Leistungen darauf. Er stellte extreme Forderungen an alle in seinem Umfeld, einschließlich der Turnierorganisatoren. Wurden diese Forderungen nicht erfüllt, weigerte er sich oft zu spielen. Der Wettkampf gegen Spassky 1972 erforderte sogar das Eingreifen von Henry Kissinger, um die Wogen zu glätten. 1975, als er seinen Titel gegen Anatoli Karpow verteidigen sollte, konnte sich Fischer mit der FIDE (dem Weltschachbund) nicht einigen und wurde disqualifiziert. Danach gab er das Schachspiel mehr oder weniger auf und spielte nur noch ein einziges Mal, einen Revanchekampf gegen Spassky 1992.

Use beeswax or 3M polish once a monthfor the shine of the board as the boards have HV melamine lacquer coating on them.
Keep chess pieces away from humidity and heat.
It can cause cracking, discolouration, and warping of chess pieces.
Do not use 3M polish for chessmen.
