Detailed Description of Official World Chess Pieces
The architect Daniel Weil of Pentagram designed these world championship chess pieces and was inspired by classical Greek proportions and the famous Staunton style. The design was made with input of elite players like Magnus Carlsen and Vladimir Kramnik in order to achieve an aesthetic balance and practical use.
Each set is hand-carved from ebonized boxwood and hand-polished for a smooth, professional finish. The pieces are triple-weighted for stability, with a 3.75" king and two extra queens included for promotion scenarios. A bespoke storage box is included to protect the set.
