Carton-Pierre Casket Reproduction
This casket has been designed and scaled larger than the original to accommodate up to a 4.4" King height with 2 additional Queens. The Carton-Pierre casket dates all the way back to the mid-19th Century. The Carton Pierre-caskets housed the Jaques Staunton Chessmen. and were available as an option from 1849 until October of 1889, The Carton-Pierre casket was designed in 1849 for Leuchars by Joseph L. Williams using the carton-pierre material designed and manufactured by George Jackson & Sons. These Neo-Gothic Sarcophagi were produced solely to house the revolutionary new Staunton Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cooke and introduced by Jaques of London in September of 1849.
